True lavender is a sun-loving Mediterranean perennial. It forms a compact shrub and, in midsummer, sends up 12–18 inch spikes of small tubular flowers. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. The oil is steam-distilled from the flowering tops.
Lavender 40/42 is one of the most familiar aromatherapy lavenders. It is used for skin and hair care, for a sense of immune support in seasonal blends, and as a classic evening oil for rest.
