Spearmint

Spearmint is a herbaceous perennial in the mint family. It grows 30–100 cm tall on square stems, with flowers in slender spikes. The oil is steam-distilled from the flowering herb.
It was long used to scent bathwater and to ease digestion. Today the flavor is familiar in gum and toothpaste. The essential oil has a sweet mint note and is often chosen for a queasy stomach or when a lighter, clearer focus is wanted.
